Against this backdrop, The Smart Manufacturing Chemical Summit 2024, presented by Rockwell Automation and powered by Pro MFG Media, was held in Vadodara on the theme ‘Accelerating Growth with Digital Transformation’. The Summit brought together industry experts, thought leaders and stakeholders to discuss the latest innovations, trends, and strategies shaping the future of chemical manufacturing.

The Summit commenced with a welcome note by Dilip Sawhney, Managing Director Rockwell Automation India. He highlighted trends in digitalization and automation and the need for embracing advanced technologies in chemical manufacturing. It was followed by a keynote address by Dr. Ajay Ranka, Chairman & MD, Zydex Group.

Dr. Ranka emphasized the criticality of embedding Manufacturing Excellence as a Culture within the chemical industry. “Innovation and market relevance are important for achieving manufacturing excellence.To thrive and sustain growth, Indian chemical manufacturers must aspire to become global players and adopt smart manufacturing practices,” stated Dr. Ranka.

A Fireside Chat on the Net Zero Roadmap for a Sustainable and Safe Future, featuring industry luminaries Deepak Seth, Director, Equinox and Dr. Jayesh Mistry, Head of Instrumentation, Reliance Industries was moderated by Manish Kulkarni, Co-Founder & Director, Pro MFG Media. The conversation delved into strategies and challenges surrounding sustainability, safety, and the path towards achieving net-zero emissions.

The first panel discussion focused on Optimizing Total Cost of Ownership in the Age of Smart Manufacturing. The speakers included Ankur Pancholi, Manager - Software & Control - Regional, Rockwell Automation, Arun C Rajyaguru, Group Head Maintenance & Reliability, Deepak Phenolics, Chetan Joshi, Head - Continuous Improvement, Digitization & Business Excellence – Tata Chemicals, Jagdish Pranami, AVP Head – E&I & IOT, SRF Chemicals, Sanjiv Prasad, Vice President / Head Power & Utilities, Reliance Industries and Sunand Naidu, Consultant - Instrumentation & Control, Quanta Process Solutions.The discussion was moderated by Niranjan Mudholkar, Editorial Director, Pro MFG Media. Panelists deliberated on important aspects like the most commonly overlooked factors while implementing smart solutions, the impact of automation levels on cost asset ownership, role of analytics in reducing long term costs, emerging trends in DSC design and implementation and need for DCS upgradation in the age of digitization.

The second panel themed around Operational Excellence and Predictive Maintenance featured industry leaders Mahesh Mandwarya, Sr. Director, Digital Initiatives (Manufacturing), Jubilant Ingrevia, Manik Yerawar, E&I Head, Aarti Industries, Neville D’Souza,Sales Leader End User - West, Rockwell Automation, Prasad J. T., AGM - Instrumentation & Automation Projects, Gulbrandsen Technologies, Prateek Kulkarni, GM - E&I - Panoli Unit, PI Industries, Vijay Vasudeva, Senior VP - Site Operations, Epigral and Virendra Mishra, AGM - Automation & Digitalization, Rallis India Limited. This session was moderated by Manish Kulkarni and it delved into the adoption of predictive maintenance strategies and technologies to optimize asset performance, minimize downtime, and drive operational efficiency, the importance of collaboration between equipment manufacturers and technology suppliers in implementing predictive maintenance solutions, safeguarding against cyber threats and adhering to robust risk management protocols and ensuring data integrity.

Dr. MS Rao, Professor & HOD, Dharmsinh Desai University contributed a special address. He focused on the recent changes in course curriculum to familiarize students with the advancements in different aspects in the functioning of the chemical industry. Following this, Sandeep Redkar, Consultant Leader-India, Rockwell Automation, presented the latest advancements in Rockwell Automation poised to transform the manufacturing landscape. He informed the audience about how global manufacturers are harnessing the emergent technology to improve quality, reduce risk and deliver sustainable growth.
