June 2025 : International technology group ANDRITZ has received a significant order from Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) to equip the new Tarali pumped storage plant located in the Satara district of Maharashtra, India. While the value of the order remains undisclosed, it marks the second major contract awarded to ANDRITZ by AGEL, following the 500 MW Chitravathi pumped storage plant order in 2023.
Under the scope of supply for the 1,500 MW Tarali project, ANDRITZ will be responsible for the design, manufacture, installation, testing, and commissioning of the crucial pump turbines, motor generators, and associated electromechanical equipment. The project will leverage ANDRITZ’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities within India, supported by its extensive global network.
This contract underscores India's strategic push to significantly expand its pumped storage capacity. This expansion is vital for balancing the grid as the country rapidly integrates increasing amounts of variable renewable energy from solar and wind sources into its national energy mix. The Tarali plant, with its substantial 1,500 MW capacity, is expected to play a major role in this energy transition.
The repeat order from AGEL solidifies ANDRITZ’s strong position in the Indian hydropower market and highlights its proven expertise in delivering pumped storage solutions. These solutions are critical for ensuring grid stability and effectively integrating intermittent renewable energy sources. ANDRITZ is currently engaged in the implementation of four new pumped storage plants across India, reinforcing its commitment to the nation's green energy future.
