January 2026 : In a milestone for India’s green mobility transition, Ashok Leyland officially inaugurated its state-of-the-art electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing facility in Lucknow on January 9, 2026. The 70-acre plant was unveiled by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and Union Minister for Heavy Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy, marking the start of a new chapter for the Hinduja Group flagship.

Built in a record 14 months, the facility is a masterclass in industrial efficiency. It is designed as a "Universal EV Hub," capable of producing the company's entire range of electric buses - from 9-meter city buses to global-spec double-deckers.

The Lucknow facility is Ashok Leyland’s most advanced plant globally, featuring: Robotic Painting Facility - A specialized line designed for double-decker buses to ensure world-class finishes for international markets. Green Design - The plant integrates rooftop solar panels, LED lighting, and zero liquid discharge systems. Economic Engine - With a planned capacity of up to 5,000 units annually, the Hinduja Group will also sign an MoU to train 10,000 youth annually in EV manufacturing at the site.

As CM Yogi Adityanath highlighted, the plant reinforces Uttar Pradesh’s position as a frontrunner in India’s EV market. For Ashok Leyland, it is a bold statement of their ambition to become a Top 10 global player.
