February 2025 : Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has teamed up with Refroid Technologies to introduce India's first Make in India liquid coolant. introduced India’s first locally made liquid coolant. This innovation is designed for AI-driven and sovereign data centers.
The new liquid coolant developed by BPCL and Refroid Technologies provides a state-of-the-art solution, improving cooling efficiency, decreasing Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), and reducing carbon emissions. This innovation is poised to revolutionize data center operations both in India and worldwide, in line with the nation's pursuit of sustainable and energy-efficient technologies.
By co-developing this liquid coolant, BPCL becomes the first Indian energy company to take this initiative. Utilizing its knowledge in advanced materials and energy solutions, BPCL aspires to establish a new industry standard by implementing the coolant in its own data centers, showcasing its efficiency and sustainability advantages.
"BPCL is honoured to take the lead in implementing and advancing this pioneering initiative," said Shubhankar Sen, Executive Director, BPCL. "This indigenous coolant represents a step forward in India's energy independence and sustainability journey. We are proud to contribute to a solution that aligns with global environmental goals, supports AI and sovereign data initiatives, and strengthens India's position as a technology leader."
Refroid Technologies collaborated closely with BPCL's research and development team to design a high-performance, energy-efficient liquid coolant specifically aligned with India's distinct environmental characteristics.
"We are immensely proud to launch this innovative liquid coolant in partnership with BPCL," said Satya Bhavaraju, CEO, Refroid Technologies. "This breakthrough is a testament to India's capability to lead in high-tech innovations while addressing global energy efficiency and carbon neutrality challenges. By leveraging this technology, data centres, including those supporting AI workloads and sovereign data, can significantly reduce operational costs and their environmental footprint."
