August 2026 : In a major boost to India’s automotive supply chain, JSW Steel Ltd. has selected international technology group ANDRITZ to supply a continuous galvanizing line for its steel manufacturing plant in Toranagallu, Karnataka.
The strategic addition is engineered to meet rising demand for Advanced High-Strength Steel (AHSS) grades. As global automakers accelerate toward fuel-efficient and electric mobility, AHSS has emerged as a critical material. By pairing exceptional structural strength with reduced weight, the alloy enables manufacturers to build lighter, safer, and more energy-efficient vehicles without sacrificing durability.
With an annual production capacity of roughly 500,000 tons, the line will process steel strip up to 1,900 mm wide and 2.60 mm thick. Designed to handle extreme tensile strengths up to 1,480 MPa at line speeds reaching 180 m/min, the plant is slated for commercial start-up in 2028.
ANDRITZ will oversee the complete end-to-end execution, including engineering, manufacturing, and equipment supply. Its scope spans terminal equipment, a chemical cleaning section, furnace, coating pot, after-pot cooling, skin pass mill, tension leveling line, and post-treatment section. Built for stringent automotive quality standards, the line ensures superior surface finish, precise coating control, and uniform metallurgical properties.
The deal highlights a deepening relationship between both industry leaders. Recorded in ANDRITZ’s Q2 2026 order intake, the commercial value remains undisclosed. “We are very pleased that JSW Steel chose us for this strategic project,” said Burgel Guido, Senior Vice President of ANDRITZ Metals Processing. “This project reflects our ability to deliver innovative, high-performance solutions that enable the production of advanced materials for the evolving automotive market. We look forward to contributing to JSW Steel's continued growth and technological leadership.”
