October 2025 : Indian engineering giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has recently achieved a significant international breakthrough in its Offshore Wind Business, securing a critical role in the prestigious High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) offshore wind programme spearheaded by TenneT, the Dutch-German transmission system operator. This landmark development positions L&T as a key global player in the ongoing energy transition and solidifies its commitment to developing sustainable infrastructure.
L&T has been nominated by TenneT, in collaboration with global electrification technology leader Hitachi Energy, to deliver state-of-the-art HVDC converter stations. This massive initiative is designed to accelerate the integration of large-scale renewable energy - particularly from the German and Dutch sectors of the North Sea—into the core European power grid. The partnership successfully merges L&T's engineering excellence and end-to-end project execution expertise with Hitachi Energy's advanced technology strengths.
The project leverages L&T's robust multidisciplinary capabilities, extensive supplier ecosystem, and three world-class modular fabrication facilities, highlighting its unique ability to execute complex offshore wind projects to the highest global standards.
Commenting on the project win, Mr S N Subrahmanyan, Chairman & Managing Director - L&T, said: “This milestone marks a proud moment for L&T as we deepen our engagement in the global clean-energy landscape. Partnering with TenneT and Hitachi Energy for this pioneering program underscores the confidence our customers place in L&T’s growing capability to execute complex, technology-intensive infrastructure projects. We thank TenneT for their trust and confidence and remain committed to delivering this development with excellence, safety, and sustainability at its heart”
Mr Subramanian Sarma, Deputy Managing Director & President - L&T, added: “This collaboration is a significant step forward for L&T’s Offshore Wind Business. It not only validates our engineering and project management strengths but also demonstrates our ability to deliver integrated HVDC solutions for large-scale renewable projects. We are grateful to TenneT for this opportunity and look forward to contributing to their ambitious North Sea energy transition program through reliable, world-class execution". The contract reinforces L&T's burgeoning global footprint and its essential contribution to enabling the world’s shift toward cleaner power generation.
