The commissioning of our first captive solar project in Uttar Pradesh is an important milestone in strengthening our energy resilience while reducing our environmental footprint. This initiative reflects our commitment to building future-ready operations through responsible and sustainable growth.” - Laksh Vaaman Sehgal, Vice Chairman - Motherson Group
June 2026 : Samvardhana Motherson International Limited has officially flipped the switch on its very first ground-mounted captive solar power project in Uttar Pradesh. Spearheaded by its energy arm, Motherson New Energy Limited (MNEL), and executed through its subsidiary Onega Solar Private Limited, the brand-new 15 MWp solar facility is nestled in Mahoba. The clean energy generated here will directly power multiple Motherson manufacturing hubs spread across the state, marking a massive win for the Group’s ongoing clean energy transition.
The environmental impact of this launch is highly impressive. Operating as a group captive renewable energy project, the Mahoba facility is geared up to churn out roughly 23.4 GWh of clean electricity every single year. For the planet, this translates to slicing away nearly 17,000 MT of greenhouse gas emissions annually, while giving Motherson a highly predictable, reliable, and cost-effective power supply for its manufacturing lines.
To bring this vision to life, Motherson teamed up with international renewable energy heavyweight ib vogt. The global developer guided the project seamlessly through its early phases - navigating land acquisition and regulatory approvals - before taking the wheel for the technical design and engineering execution.
Reflecting on the milestone, Laksh Vaaman Sehgal, Vice Chairman, Motherson Group, said: “Sustainability is embedded into how we think about long-term value creation at Motherson. The commissioning of our first captive solar project in Uttar Pradesh is an important milestone in strengthening our energy resilience while reducing our environmental footprint. This initiative reflects our commitment to building future-ready operations through responsible and sustainable growth.”
Looking ahead, this isn't a one-off green trophy for the company. Motherson is actively hunting for more renewable opportunities across various Indian states to diversify its power mix and help its global clients hit their own decarbonization targets.
Kunal Vohra, COO, Energy Business, Motherson Group, said: “Reliable access to competitively priced renewable power is becoming increasingly important for global manufacturing operations. This project establishes the foundation for scaling Motherson’s renewable energy portfolio while supporting operational resilience, sustainability goals and long-term energy competitiveness.”
Cheering the partnership, Parish Gupta, CEO & Managing Director of ib vogt Solar India, commented: “We are delighted to partner with Motherson on this landmark captive solar project in Uttar Pradesh. The project reflects a shared commitment towards accelerating industrial decarbonization through reliable and commercially viable renewable energy solutions. We look forward to supporting Motherson’s long-term energy transition journey across India.”
