September 2026 : Sterlite Technologies Ltd. (STL), a leading connectivity solutions provider for AI-ready digital infrastructure, has taken a significant leap toward its Net-Zero roadmap by transitioning core manufacturing operations in India to 100% green power.

Under the new sustainability milestone, the company has shifted away from conventional fossil-fuel-based grid electricity to renewable wind and solar energy sources through Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). The shift powers four of STL’s manufacturing facilities located in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad), Maharashtra. The transition is projected to deliver an estimated 65% market-based Scope 2 carbon emission reduction across its participating optical fibre (OF) and optical fibre cable (OFC) plants.

In tandem with electricity grid decarbonisation, STL has integrated 100% Green Hydrogen into its glass manufacturing process. By addressing glass production - traditionally an energy-intensive phase reliant on fossil-derived hydrogen 0 STL has successfully decarbonised one of the hardest-to-abate steps in the optical fibre value chain.

The manufacturing overhaul directly benefits end-customers in telecom and data center networks. Notably, the carbon footprint of STL’s flagship G.657.A2 optical fibre has dropped from 4.7 kg CO₂e per fibre kilometre (fkm) to 0.9 kg CO₂e/fkm - an 80% total reduction. Additionally, STL has introduced an updated Corporate Mobility Policy that enhances limits and offers dedicated incentives for employees opting for electric and hybrid vehicles to curb Scope 3 emissions.
