“By leveraging the power of data and AI, we are strengthening our digital foundation to drive smarter operations, accelerate renewable integration, and deliver more agile, customer-centric solutions while contributing to a resilient and sustainable power sector." - Dr Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD - Tata Power

April 2026 : The future of India’s power grid is becoming as much about data as it is about electricity. In a landmark move for the energy sector, Tata Power has recently announced an enterprise-wide partnership with Databricks to build a sophisticated data and AI platform. This collaboration aims to transform how one of India’s largest integrated power companies manages everything from renewable energy forecasting to the customer experience.

The shift toward a "future-ready" ecosystem reflects the changing nature of the energy industry. As Tata Power integrates more renewables and expands its smart grid infrastructure, the need to process massive amounts of data in real-time has become a mechanical necessity. By adopting the Databricks platform, the company is breaking down traditional data silos, allowing for more accurate power planning and improved billing efficiencies.

A standout feature of this digital overhaul is the introduction of Genie, an AI agent that essentially allows employees to "talk to their data." This natural language interface enables team members to get trusted answers and generate analytics instantly, moving beyond fragmented legacy systems.

"This partnership with Databricks marks a key milestone in our journey to build a future-ready, intelligent energy ecosystem. By leveraging the power of data and AI, we are strengthening our digital foundation to drive smarter operations, accelerate renewable integration, and deliver more agile, customer-centric solutions while contributing to a resilient and sustainable power sector," said Dr Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power.

The initiative isn't just about internal efficiency; it’s about the consumer’s evolving role. As customers transition from passive users to active participants in the energy ecosystem, this unified platform provides the visibility needed to optimize usage and enhance grid flexibility.

"The energy sector is undergoing a profound transformation, and data and AI is at the heart of that change. Together, Databricks and Tata Power are building a unified and scalable platform that brings together data, apps, analytics, and AI agents - enabling faster innovation and more resilient, data-driven energy systems," said Nick Eayrs, Vice President of Field Engineering for Asia Pacific and Japan at Databricks.
