September 2026 : Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has hit a landmark operational milestone, crossing 7 GW of clean energy generation. The major achievement comes on the heels of successfully commissioning its 100 MW Group Captive Solar Project (TNGC-2) across Vellalankottai and Nalandhula villages in Kayathar, Tamil Nadu.

With this new operational addition, TPREL’s utility-scale portfolio has expanded to 12.3 GW. The company's 7 GW operational capacity comprises 5.7 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind energy assets. Looking ahead, TPREL holds a robust 5.3 GW development pipeline - including 2.2 GW solar and 3.1 GW wind projects - slated for phased rollout over the next 6 to 24 months.

The Kayathar project introduces an innovative tech deployment for a Tata project: Flexible Terrain Compatible (FTC) Single Axis Tracker technology. Armed with 261,660 Mono PERC bifacial solar modules, the plant is engineered to adapt to varying terrain conditions and extract maximum energy output efficiently.

Power generated by the plant will route directly through the Kayathar 400 kV Grid Substation (GSS). It will supply sustainable energy to sister entities:

  • • TP Solar Limited (40.625 MW)
  • • Tata Electronics Private Limited (53.125 MW)
  • • Tata Realty And Infrastructure Limited (6.25 MW)

The project is designed to generate 240.63 million units (MUs) of clean electricity while offsetting nearly 1.5 lakh tonnes of CO₂ annually.

Parent company Tata Power operates a total portfolio exceeding 26 GW, including ~17.7 GW of clean energy and 8.8 GW of thermal generation. Anchored by a 4.9 GW module manufacturing plant and ambitious storage projects, Tata Power continues to drive toward its Net Zero by 2045 commitment while supporting India's national goal of 500 GW non-fossil capacity by 2030.
