December 2025 : The Dangote Group, Nigeria’s foremost multinational conglomerate, has appointed Engineers India Limited (EIL) as the Project Management Consultant (PMC) and Engineering, Procurement & Construction Management (EPCM) consultant for a major expansion of its Fertilizer Complex in the Lekki Free Trade Zone.

The agreement was officially signed by Ms. Vartika Shukla, C&MD of EIL, and Mr. Aliko Dangote, Founder, President and Chief Executive of the Dangote Group.

The expansion is set to dramatically increase the complex’s output by adding four new urea production trains to the existing facility. The current complex already produces 2.65 million tons of urea annually. Upon completion, the Dangote Fertilizer Complex will boast six fully integrated Ammonia-Urea production trains with an estimated total capacity of 8 million tons of urea annually, positioning it among the world’s largest fertilizer complexes.

Mr. Aliko Dangote underscored the significance of the partnership and the project's impact on the region: “Engineers India Limited (EIL) has been appointed as the Project Management and EPCM Consultant for the expansion of the Dangote Fertilizer Complex in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, where four new urea trains will be added. This milestone further strengthens the long-standing partnership between Dangote and EIL, whose proven expertise and consistent excellence have made them our most trusted partner for both the Fertilizer Complex and the Refinery & Petrochemical Complex. With these projects, the Lekki industrial zone is emerging as the region’s powerhouse-home to the world’s largest refinery and the world’s largest fertilizer complex.”

EIL, a premier engineering consultancy under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India, has been a trusted partner to Dangote, having previously served as the PMC and EPCM Consultant for the iconic 650,000 barrels-per-day Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex, which was commissioned in 2024.

Ms. Vartika Shukla, C&MD, EIL, highlighted the shared commitment to excellence: “EIL is proud to strengthen its partnership with the Dangote Group in shaping Africa’s industrial future. This expansion reflects our shared commitment to delivering world-scale assets with engineering excellence, project management expertise and technological leadership. The addition of four large scale fertilizer trains positions the complex as a global-scale urea hub with six integrated production trains-an achievement that underscores our collective focus on execution excellence and engineering leadership.”

The major capacity addition aims to strengthen Africa's industrial ecosystem and enhance global supply of agricultural inputs, driven by EIL's expertise across the hydrocarbon and fertilizer value chain.
