“The commissioning of our Superfine precipitated hydrate plant in Belagavi will further strengthen our leadership position, and enhance our high-value specialty alumina portfolio in India. This investment reflects Hindalco’s focus on creating value, moving up the value chain and delivering advanced solutions that meet the emerging needs of customers in India and global markets.” - Satish Pai, Managing Director, Hindalco Industries

August 2026 : In a major boost to India’s domestic manufacturing capability and global sustainability efforts, Hindalco Industries Limited has commissioned the nation’s first greenfield Superfine PPT ATH (Precipitated Aluminium Trihydrate) plant in Belagavi, Karnataka.

The facility boasts an initial Phase 1 annual capacity of 30,000 tonnes - engineered to scale up to 60,000 tonnes - effectively fulfilling almost the entire domestic demand for Halogen-Free Flame Retardant (HFFR) cables. Beyond its industrial impact, the unit sets a global sustainability benchmark as the world’s only specialty alumina plant operating entirely on 100% renewable energy sourced from biomass, solar, and wind.

PPT ATH is a high-value, non-toxic flame retardant crucial for suppressed smoke generation and zero halogen acid emissions during fires. With stricter domestic standards like BIS IS 17048:2018 taking effect, Hindalco’s indigenous InnoSafe solution will power next-generation EV mobility, thermal insulation, electronics, and power infrastructure.

Developed through an entirely in-house "flask-to-factory" R&D journey, the plant features automated process controls that guarantee stringent product consistency.

Satish Pai, Managing Director, Hindalco Industries, said, “The commissioning of our Superfine precipitated hydrate plant in Belagavi will further strengthen our leadership position, and enhance our high-value specialty alumina portfolio in India. This investment reflects Hindalco’s focus on creating value, moving up the value chain and delivering advanced solutions that meet the emerging needs of customers in India and global markets.”

Echoing this vision, Saurabh Khedekar, CEO, Alumina Business, Hindalco Industries, said, “The addition of Superfine PPT ATH strengthens our Specialty Alumina portfolio and reinforces our focus on innovation-led growth. Our InnoSafe solution enhances fire safety by retarding flame spread and suppressing smoke, enabling safer and more sustainable infrastructure. As India’s first manufacturer of Superfine Precipitated Hydrate, we are proud to offer an indigenous, world-class solution that strengthens self-reliance, reduces import dependence and supports the evolving needs of the wire and cable industry.”

With an impressive greenhouse gas intensity of just 0.44 tCO2e per tonne of alumina, Hindalco isn't just elevating fire safety - it is redefining eco-friendly industrial growth.
