January 2026 : Dr. Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), addressed a media briefing detailing the significant progress of the PLI Auto and PM E-DRIVE Schemes, reinforcing the government’s commitment to a self-sustaining electric mobility ecosystem.

Under the PLI Auto Scheme, incentives amounting to ₹2,321.94 crore have been disbursed as of December 31, 2025. These incentives have supported the production of 10,42,172 electric two-wheelers (e-2W), 2,38,385 electric three-wheelers (e-3W), 79,540 electric four-wheelers (e-4W), and 1,391 electric buses. As of September 30, 2025, the scheme has facilitated a cumulative investment of ₹35,657 crore and determined sales of ₹32,879 crore, generating employment for nearly 49,000 persons.

Furthermore, the PM E-DRIVE Scheme has seen aggressive targets achieved ahead of schedule, particularly in the e-3W (L5) segment. With 2.88 lakh units reached, incentivization for this category was successfully closed on December 26, 2025. EV penetration in this segment is now estimated at 32%. Total EV sales under the scheme reached 21.24 lakh units as of December 30, 2025.

With these achievements, the MHI remains committed to advancing the Government’s vision of Net Zero by 2070 and building an AtmaNirbhar Bharat through sustainable and indigenous manufacturing.
