February 2026 : In a major move to bolster its heavy-duty electric vehicle (EV) production capabilities, Montra Electric, the clean mobility arm of the 125-year-old Murugappa Group, has recently appointed automotive industry veteran Lavkesh Deshwal as General Manager and Head of Manufacturing Operations.
Deshwal joins the company at a pivotal moment, following Montra Electric’s recent milestone as the first heavy-duty electric truck manufacturer in India to receive certification under the government’s PM E-DRIVE scheme. Based in Gurugram, he will oversee the integrated operations of both battery and e-M&HCV (Electric Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicle) assembly plants, ensuring the production of world-class vehicles like the Rhino 5538 EV.
Deshwal brings a powerhouse of experience in "Mega Factory" operations, having managed teams ranging from 800 to 4,000 personnel. His mandate includes driving operational efficiencies, fostering a rigorous culture of behavioral safety, and ensuring seamless part availability to meet the growing demand for sustainable freight solutions.
With a career spanning over two decades, Deshwal has a proven track record of implementing World Class Manufacturing (WCM) practices and piloting greenfield projects. His expertise in Lean Manufacturing and P&L management is expected to be a key driver in Montra Electric’s ambitious vision to become a $1 billion company by 2030.
Prior to this role, Deshwal served as Plant Head at DCM Shriram Ltd. (Fenesta). His extensive 13-year tenure at Tata Motors saw him lead vehicle assembly and supplier transformation programs. His career also includes impactful stints at LG Electronics India, Hero Honda, Musashi Auto Parts, and Scooters India Limited. An alumnus of HBTI Kanpur (B.Tech, Mechanical), he also holds an MBA in Business Analytics from BITS Pilani.
