By driving AI adoption in the cement industry, Frinks AI has helped cement manufacturing companies eliminate shipment errors, reduce compliance risk of unlabelled bags, and save up to three percent of profits.

July 2023 : Certain problems related to the cement packing operations are often neglected and this leads to huge losses for the cement manufacturing companies. Most of the time, manual counting by operators leads to shipment errors and frequent complaints from the distributors. At the same time, identification of unlabelled bags is also causing compliance issues. Given this scenario, there is a need for a 100 percent accurate bag counting technology as the current sensor systems operate only at about 95-96 percent accuracy.

AI Adoption in the Cement Industry
To address this challenging business situation, Frinks AI, a Bangalore-based Industry 4.0 technology company is driving AI adoption in the cement industry. Aditya Agrawal, Director & CEO, Frinks AI, says, “We provide an AI-powered visual inspection platform for comprehensive automation of packing plant and shipment tracking & management. The application applies AI to the video data of cement bags captured from the packing plant conveyor belts for 100 percent accurate bag counting, label print inspections, and automating shipments. We have successfully delivered value through our technology to various cement companies including Ultratech, ACC, JSW, Birla White, and more. It helped them eliminate shipment errors, reduce compliance risk of unlabelled bags, and save up to two percent of profits.”

Accuracy Test
Frinks AI conducted an accuracy test analysing 19 shifts from four truck loaders and one double discharge packer for eight days for a cement manufacturing company. The data from the plant team, Frinks AI system, and recorded video was analysed to derive the following insights:

⮚ Frinks AI delivered 100 percent accuracy for bag visibility as low as 30 percent.

⮚ Forty seven percent of the shipments were found to have additional bags.

⮚ 6.5 percent of the shipments were found to have less bags.

⮚ Average of three bags in every 1000 bags were dispatched extra. (~25 Tonne in 8 days from one double discharge packer).

An End-to-End Shipment Tracking and Management Platform
Frinks AI platform applies AI to video data of cement bags captured from the packing plant conveyor belts for following analytics:

✔ 100 percent accurate bag counting,

✔ Label print inspection,

✔ Belt Analytics (idle time, idle running time, and running time),

✔ Packer Operator Productivity,

✔ Shipment tracking and management.

Industry 4.0: Optimizing Operations & Cutting Costs
1. Eliminating shipment errors with 100 percent accurate bag counting technology,
2. Reducing compliance risks of unlabelled bags in the market,
3. Creating transparency, accountability, and traceability in shipments to manage future disputes,
4. Increasing packing and loading efficiency resulting in energy savings and higher throughput,
5. Near-zero electrical or mechanical maintenance compared to Sensor Systems.

“Frinks AI’s visual inspection platform has been instrumental in automating our entire packing plant operation. The system delivered 100 percent accuracy in both bag counting and label print inspection, ensuring full compliance with regulatory mandates and eliminating shipment errors. By incorporating AI-driven traceability, accountability, and transparency, we have successfully established an error-proof system for managing shipments. As a result, we have experienced significant cost savings, amounting to a 3 percent of our profits,” says a representative of a leading cement company.
