The MoU signifies the endeavor of RSP to adopt Green Steel making technologies as part its Decarbonization Strategy to become Net Carbon Neutral.

Feb 2024 : Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), an integrated steel plant of the Maharatna Company SAIL, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Messrs Primetals Technologies, Austria GmbH, in its endeavor to adopt Green Steel making technologies in progressive manner as part its Decarbonization Strategy to become Net Carbon Neutral.

Messrs Primetals Technologies being market leader in Environmental and Energy efficient solutions for the metal industry, its expertise will help RSP chart the roadmap for decarbonisation of the steel making processes in line with the Carbon Emission Reduction targets delivered at COP- 26 summit at Glasgow, Scotland.

S R Suryawanshi, Executive Director (Works), Rourkela Steel Plant signed the MOU on behalf of RSP while Nobert Petermaier, Executive VP (Sales & Marketing), and Hitoshi Kawano, ED & CEO, Primetals Technologies were the signatories on behalf of Primetals.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Suryawanshi elaborated on the sincere endeavors of RSP to cut down carbon emissions and become net carbon neutral. He also expressed hope that association with Primetals would go a long way in achieving these objectives.

Norbert Petermaier expressed his happiness to partner with SAIL-Rourkela Steel Plant for its transition into green steel production.

The MOU will facilitate in preparation of raw materials for clean steel production, adopting Hydrogen-based steel production and CO2-free sustainable steel production, working on Carbon direct avoidance and smart carbon usage, Gas treatment, improvising upon Digitalisation in the steel industry, Energy efficiency and Carbon capture, utilization, storage, and related technologies.
