September 2026 : In a pivotal development for India’s defense manufacturing ecosystem, Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) has executed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Javelin Joint Venture (JJV) - a partnership between American defense heavyweights Raytheon, an RTX business, and Lockheed Martin. The agreement lays the groundwork for the co-production of the battle-tested Javelin All Up Round (AUR) missile in India.
Under the terms of the industrial MOU, TASL and the JJV will evaluate the establishment of a specialized final assembly and integration facility, alongside developing key component production capabilities across the country. Beyond scaling up future global production of the Javelin system, the agreement is designed to unlock unique industrial avenues for domestic enterprise while bolstering overall regional stability throughout the vital Indo-Pacific zone.
The combat-proven Javelin missile system is widely recognized as a top-tier anti-armor weapon. Facilitating its assembly on Indian soil represents a major milestone in bilateral defense cooperation between Washington and New Delhi, directly advancing India’s ambitious drive toward defense industrial self-reliance.
Reflecting on the strategic importance of the collaboration, leadership highlighted the long-term impact on domestic technological capability and military readiness. “We are pleased to partner with the Javelin Joint Venture on this important next step in our long-standing relationship with Lockheed Martin and Raytheon,” said Sukaran Singh, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Tata Advanced Systems Limited. “This initiative brings critical assembly expertise and knowledge transfer into India’s defence industrial ecosystem, while strengthening self-reliance. Local assembly of the Javelin All Up Round will enhance operational readiness and ensure timely access to proven, combat-ready capability for the Indian Armed Forces.”
As global defense supply chains seek greater resilience and agility, this venture bridges frontline American technology with India’s rapidly maturing industrial infrastructure. It secures India’s position not just as a buyer, but as an active, vital producer in global defense supply networks.
