September 2025 : Tata Motors has recently announced a major leadership transition, appointing Shailesh Chandra as the company’s new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. The appointment is scheduled to become effective on October 1, 2025, and his tenure is set for three years, continuing until 2028.
Chandra, a veteran of Tata Motors with a career spanning three decades, is currently serving as the joint managing director for the company's crucial passenger vehicles (PV) and passenger electric mobility businesses. He will maintain his leadership role within the fast-growing electric mobility segment as he takes on the top executive position.
Experience in a Pivotal Time Shailesh Chandra’s deep roots within the company date back to 1995, when he first joined Tata Motors as a manager in production. He later transitioned into a senior management role within the company's vendor development wing. His long-standing experience across key internal functions positions him to lead the company as it navigates the global automotive landscape.
Chandra’s leadership will be crucial in ensuring Tata Motors maintains its strong trajectory in the Indian domestic market, particularly in the competitive electric vehicle segment, while managing its relationship with the evolving JLR business unit.
