This pursuit of operational excellence anchored the panel at the 7th Edition of the Pro MFG Plant Maintenance & Asset Management (PMAM) Summit 2026 in Coimbatore. Organized by Pro MFG Media alongside Presenting Partner Mobil and Gold Partner ImageGraphix, the summit spotlighted Smart Maintenance - Leveraging Digital Tools for Reliable Plant Operations.
Providing an elite, high-precision perspective was Suresh Mishra, Plant Head of the Aerospace Composite Business at LMW Advanced Technology Centre (ATC). Mishra highlighted how the aerospace pioneer maintains world-class shop floor reliability across thousands of connected machines.
LMW occupies a unique position in the industrial landscape: they build precision machinery and operate massive captive facilities. Across its four specialized divisions - textiles, machine tooling, foundry, and aerospace - the company operates more than 2,000 internal machines. To manage an infrastructure of this scale, LMW builds native Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities directly into its equipment. Working alongside their sister concern, Petrus Technology, every asset on the floor continuously streams real-time condition monitoring and health data.
"When global aerospace giants like Airbus or Lockheed Martin evaluate your facility, they don't just look at capacity," Mishra explained. "They demand to see your Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) records and asset availability logs." Through this combination of team training and management backing, LMW ATC maintains an impressive Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) of 90% on critical assets - comfortably surpassing the global aerospace benchmark of 80% to 85%.
One of LMW's most innovative breakthroughs is bridging the gap between machine health and human performance. Historically, factories calculated operator performance using basic monthly attendance records. Today, LMW leverages its unified CRM and IoT dashboards to extract granular, cross-shift performance data every 24 hours.
The system tracks precisely how many components an asset produced in a shift, along with its exact quality pass rate. Interestingly, the data revealed that the exact same machine producing the identical product would yield higher outputs during specific shifts, pinpointing differences in pallet changeover times and operator handling.
LMW turned these insights into an objective, data-backed incentive program. When machine OEE hits target thresholds, operators receive direct financial bonuses. This data transparency aligns the interests of shop floor workers directly with the corporate goals of investors, keeping machines running optimally and delivering a rapid return on investment.
