“This proposal to explore the setting up of a sand casting facility with our long-time partner Magellan Aerospace at the Belagavi Aerospace Cluster is aligned with our commitment to offer our customers world class manufacturing processes and technologies. It will also contribute to the vertically integrated manufacturing capabilities that Aequs operates at the Cluster.” - Aravind Melligeri, Chairman, Aequs.

March 2025 : Magellan Aerospace Limited and Aequs Pvt. Ltd. will explore setting up a joint sand casting facility at the Belagavi Aerospace Cluster (BAC) in Karnataka to meet the growing demands from the aerospace sector. Phillip Underwood, President and CEO, Magellan and Aravind Melligeri, Chairman, Aequs sealed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) towards this.

The current initiative builds on the long and successful partnership that Magellan and Aequs have nurtured since 2007 when the two set up a JV, the Aerospace Processing India (API), to provide surface treatment solutions to the industry. API became the first facility in India to be approved by both Airbus and Boeing, providing OEMs with aerospace surface treatments not readily available in the country at the time. Today this JV has flourished and grown to be the largest in India processing more than 1.5 million parts per year.

A similar announcement was made in July last year when Aequs and Magellan had entered into an understanding to explore setting up an aircraft engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility at the BAC.

The proposed sand casting facility aims to support both the commercial and defence aerospace sectors. Currently, India has a limited number of aerospace-qualified NADCAP sand casting facilities. This new venture aims to enhance sand casting capabilities in Southeast Asia.

Commenting on this newly agreed-to MOU, Aravind Melligeri said, “This proposal to explore the setting up of a sand casting facility with our long-time partner Magellan Aerospace at the Belagavi Aerospace Cluster is aligned with our commitment to offer our customers world class manufacturing processes and technologies. It will also contribute to the vertically integrated manufacturing capabilities that Aequs operates at the Cluster. Advancements in sand casting technology have made it possible to provide lightweight yet robust components made to stringent standards that the aerospace industry demands.”

Phillip Underwood expressed, “With the anticipated aerospace and aviation growth, this potential new sand casting venture in India will focus on infrastructure development, cost advantages, capacity increases and strategic initiatives that are essential to realizing the sector's global potential. Magellan is committed to helping grow this commodity in India. We are ready to meet the growing needs of our casting customers with the cost-effective and quality solutions they have come to expect."
