October 2025 : Graphcore, a wholly owned subsidiary of SoftBank, is making a substantial commitment to India by establishing a new AI Engineering Campus in Bengaluru. The initiative is backed by an investment of up to £1 billion over the next decade and is set to create 500 new semiconductor jobs. This expansion is central to Graphcore's work in building the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI) computing, aligning with SoftBank Group’s vision of becoming the leading Artificial Super Intelligence platform provider.

The company is commencing an immediate hiring drive for the first 100 AI semiconductor engineering roles in India, focusing on critical areas such as Silicon Logical Design, Physical Design, and Verification. Engineers in Bengaluru will develop semiconductor products aimed at solving global challenges in drug discovery, public health, and environmental sustainability.

The investment is enabled by SoftBank Group’s deep commitment to the company, which it acquired in 2024. SoftBank’s ongoing support is expected to reach £1 billion per annum in the coming years and complements its recent major AI infrastructure moves, including the $500 billion Stargate project.

Graphcore chose Bengaluru - often dubbed ‘India’s Silicon Valley’ - due to its exceptional ecosystem of world-class universities and engineering talent. The company also acknowledged the supportive national initiatives fostering the semiconductor sector, hoping to play a role in building India's national capability.
