May 2024 : The Plant Maintenance and Asset Management Summit 2024 - Indore Edition convened a panel of distinguished industry leaders to discuss the pivotal role of digitalization in plant maintenance. The panel consisted of Satish Pandey, Head - Operations & International Business (Construction, Mining & Agri Vertical), Metalman Auto, Sujith Kumar, Director - Customer Innovation Center, Belden Inc. and Paresh Maiyani, Head Technical Cell & Project, UltraTech Cement. The discussion was moderated by Manish Kulkarni, Director, Pro MFG Media.

Digitalization plays a key role in assisting businesses to understand how KPIs can be achieved and the path businesses can take to improve business outcomes. “Digitalization helps plants identify the root cause of an issue at source. By leveraging data analytics and predictive maintenance algorithms, businesses can accurately pinpoint the source of problems, enabling swift and targeted interventions,” stated Sujith Kumar, Director - Customer Innovation Center, Belden Inc.

Digital technologies have been a key factor in improving efficiency and reliability and reducing Paresh Maiyani, Head Technical Cell & Project, UltraTech Cement said, “Through simulation of real-time scenarios digitalization fosters preparedness among plant workforce to implement necessary measures when needed, thus enhancing operational efficiency.” Maiyani further advocated for collaboration between the industry and technology-driven startups to foster innovation in digitized plants.“Collaboration between the industry and technology driven startups through various fora like networking events can go a long way in addressing pressing issues that manufacturing plants are grappling with,” he noted.

Choosing appropriate technologies amidst rapid technological advancements has posed a key challenge posed in this era. Satish Pandey, Head - Operations & International Business (Construction, Mining & Agri Vertical), Metalman Auto mentioned, “Solution providers can play a big role in guiding manufacturing plants through this complexity ensuring that the choice is optimally aligned with organizational objectives and operational requirements.” He further adds, “Large manufacturing plants are often so focused on the volume of production that the smallest aspects along the operational value chain go unnoticed. Tech-driven startups can be roped in to take care of these small yet critical aspects.”
