November 2025 : The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has marked a significant leap in indigenous emission compliance and testing by inaugurating India’s first-of-its-kind remote work station for Portable Emissions Measurement System (PEMS) testing- the PEMS Pro-Cart. This innovative, fully integrated solution is set to dramatically enhance the country’s capability to conduct Real Drive Emission (RDE) tests under real-world conditions.

The PEMS Pro-Cart directly addresses the complex and growing demands for emissions testing mandated by the Automotive BSVI norms and the upcoming non-road CEV/TREM Stage V standards. Its design makes the notoriously sensitive PEMS equipment fully mobile, enabling testing that was previously challenging to execute.

The portable facility is crucial for carrying out Heavy duty ISC (In-Service Conformity) and non-road ISM (In-Service Monitoring) tests across diverse and remote locations in India.

The PEMS Pro-Cart is a strategic asset that aligns with the nation's clean mobility agenda. The move reinforces ARAI's core objective: “ARAI is on continuous endeavour to deliver best-in-class services to the industry for contributing to less-polluting vehicles plying on roads.” This new infrastructure will expedite the certification process and ensure a higher standard of environmental compliance for both on-road and off-road vehicles.
