“In India, our goal is to certify more than 500 technicians every year, with almost every certified individual securing a job opportunity in India or the Gulf region where they can work as an inspector, a quality control expert, a consultant, a trainer, or a researcher. Their expertise will be vital in industries where defect detection, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance are crucial.” - Neal J. Couture, CAE, ASNT Executive Director

August 2023 : The world’s top global NDT certification body, the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT), has opened a world-class training facility in Chennai. The 7500 sq. ft. facility is situated in Ambattur Industrial Estate and has cutting-edge nondestructive testing (NDT) equipment and advanced NDT technologies, enabling participants to gain practical hands-on NDT training to become industry-ready.

The facility’s opening comes at a time when initiatives such as ‘Make in India’ have created a need for skilled NDT technicians in large-scale projects like oil refineries, aerospace, offshore platforms, pipelines, megastructures, and more. Globally the NDT market is expected to see significant growth of US$ 16.66 billion by 2029, according to market research publisher Fortune Business Insights. ResearchAndMarkets.com further reports that the training services segment is projected to account for the second-largest size of the NDT and testing market.

Discussing how the ASNT facility will help meet this demand in India, Neal J. Couture, CAE, ASNT Executive Director, said “ASNT India Pvt Ltd is India’s first NDT certification facility and will offer cutting-edge courses that are well recognized by national and international organizations. In India, our goal is to certify more than 500 technicians every year, with almost every certified individual securing a job opportunity in India or the Gulf region where they can work as an inspector, a quality control expert, a consultant, a trainer, or a researcher. Their expertise will be vital in industries where defect detection, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance are crucial.”

The primary beneficiaries of Chennai’s ASNT facility include vital industries such as oil and gas, power, infrastructure, manufacturing, construction, and steel. NDT technicians performed by qualified professionals will facilitate heightened safety, cost savings, improved product quality, and enhanced competitiveness.

“With the Chennai facility, we hope to boost NDT research and scholarly endeavours in India in addition to our training and certification offerings,” said Prakash Gokulanandam, ASNT India Director and General Manager from providing training services. He says, "Our primary emphasis is on promoting the ASNT 9712 program in India for Level IIs and IIIs. The training courses will be taught by industry experts and offer practical lab experience and certification exams will be delivered via computer-based testing. Students also will be able to sign up for membership to take advantage of all of the member benefits offered by ASNT and access to industry-specific publications.”
