“Over the past year, we have refined our approach to put brands at the centre, with a clear focus on creating offerings that enable mainstream adoption. Achieving this requires closer collaboration with key partners across the value chain. Our partnership with Birla Cellulose is a cornerstone of our strategy, and we’re very excited to have them onboard.” - Jonatan Janmark, CEO - Circulose

December 2025 : In a significant move for the global sustainable fashion movement, Birla Cellulose and Swedish sustain-tech innovator Circulose have recently announced a strategic cooperation agreement. This partnership is designed to bridge the gap between textile waste and high-quality production, accelerating the industry’s transition toward a truly circular economy.

Under the terms of the agreement, Circulose will supply its specialized pulp- produced from 100% recycled textile waste- to Birla Cellulose. As one of the world’s largest producers of man-made cellulosic fibres (MMCF), Birla Cellulose will transform this recycled pulp into premium textile fibres for the global value chain. The collaboration aims to stabilize the supply of recycled materials, providing brands with a reliable, scalable alternative to virgin resources.

The partnership comes at a critical time as the fashion industry faces increasing pressure to reduce its environmental footprint and move away from "take-make-waste" models.

Emphasising Birla Cellulose’s commitment to sustainable sourcing, Vadiraj Kulkarni, Business Head, Birla Cellulose, said: “Our partnership with Circulose marks a significant step forward in advancing sustainable and responsible sourcing. Through this collaboration, we reaffirm our commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainability conscious fibre solutions that empower our customers and contribute to a circular future.”

For Circulose, formerly known as Renewcell, the deal represents a key pillar in its market expansion strategy. By aligning with a manufacturing giant like the Aditya Birla Group, the Swedish firm ensures its patented recycling technology reaches mainstream adoption.

Underscoring the role of partnerships in advancing circularity, Jonatan Janmark, CEO, Circulose said: “Over the past year, we have refined our approach to put brands at the centre, with a clear focus on creating offerings that enable mainstream adoption. Achieving this requires closer collaboration with key partners across the value chain. Our partnership with Birla Cellulose is a cornerstone of our strategy, and we’re very excited to have them onboard.”

By combining Birla’s massive manufacturing footprint with Circulose’s award-winning recycling technology, the duo is set to create a more resilient, transparent, and eco-conscious textile ecosystem.
