October 2025 : Castrol India Limited (CIL) has recently announced the appointment of Saugata Basuray as its Interim Chief Executive Officer. The move places a highly experienced and long-serving company leader at the helm, promising continuity and strategic depth as the lubricant major navigates its immediate future.
Mr. Basuray is a Castrol veteran whose career with CIL spans over 25 years, marked by an impressive trajectory across sales, marketing, and business leadership both in India and internationally. He began his tenure as a Management Trainee in 1999, shortly after completing his MBA from the Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM) and an Engineering degree from the University of Pune.
Crucially, Mr. Basuray brings a rich, global perspective, having worked in four countries across two continents. This international experience includes a pivotal role at Castrol’s global headquarter in the UK starting in 2008, where he contributed to the successful shaping of 'Castrol Edge' into a global power brand. He further honed his leadership skills as the head of Castrol Philippines from 2013 to 2017, and later as the Managing Director of Castrol’s joint venture in Indonesia.
Domestically, Mr. Basuray’s recent work has had a transformative impact. As the current head of the B2C business segment at CIL, he has driven a multi-year transformation of the company’s go-to-market model and significantly expanded Castrol’s distribution network, notably pushing its reach deep into rural India.
Earlier in his career, the Interim CEO gained a close view of strategic corporate leadership while serving as Executive Assistant to the Managing Director of CIL and Regional Vice President bp. Upon his return to India, he successfully led sales for the B2B channel before serving as Head of Marketing for Castrol India. Saugata holds an Engineering degree from the University of Pune.
Mr. Basuray’s extensive history of market diversification, strategic transformation, and deep operational knowledge across varied economic cycles positions him as a natural choice to lead Castrol India in this interim capacity.
