"Our new facility in Sanand is a key milestone in bringing advanced lighting technologies to our customers in India. Together with our partner Motherson, we are uniting global innovation with strong local manufacturing capabilities to deliver cutting-edge solutions for the Indian market." - Frank Huber, President - Lighting Business, Marelli

February 2026 : In a move that brings futuristic automotive design to Indian roads, Marelli and its joint venture partner Motherson have officially inaugurated a state-of-the-art lighting manufacturing facility in Sanand. This second plant in the region marks a significant leap for the Marelli Motherson Lighting India (MMLI) partnership, introducing first-of-their-kind technologies to the country's rapidly evolving passenger vehicle market.

The facility is not just a factory; it is a high-tech hub for "homogenous light signatures." MMLI is set to produce single-piece, end-to-end lamps that span the entire width of a vehicle - reaching nearly two meters in length. Additionally, the plant will localize the production of India’s slimmest headlamp modules, standing at a mere 17 millimeters in height, offering features like Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB) and high-beam boost.

The leadership behind the venture emphasized the synergy between global tech and local manufacturing prowess.

Frank Huber, President of Marelli’s Lighting Business, stated: "Our new facility in Sanand is a key milestone in bringing advanced lighting technologies to our customers in India. Together with our partner Motherson, we are uniting global innovation with strong local manufacturing capabilities to deliver cutting-edge solutions for the Indian market."

Laksh Vaaman Sehgal, Vice Chairman of Motherson, added: "The inauguration of our cutting-edge automotive lighting plant underscores Motherson's unwavering commitment to innovation, excellence, and customer-centricity. This strategic investment strengthens our ability to deliver advanced, future-ready lighting solutions while meeting the evolving needs of our customers."

To handle the massive tooling required for two-meter-long lighting elements, the plant features high-tonnage injection molding machines and specialized overhead cranes - a first for an Indian lighting facility.

Beyond engineering, sustainability is a core pillar. The site includes rooftop solar installations and has already contributed to the local ecosystem by planting 1,700 trees. This expansion brings Marelli’s total Indian footprint to 16 production sites and three R&D centers, firmly positioning the MMLI joint venture as a powerhouse in one of the world’s most dynamic automotive markets.
