June 2026 : In a recent development for the future of transportation, IIT Madras is joining hands with global tire manufacturing giant Goodyear to turn everyday tires into intelligent data hubs that could redefine vehicle safety. By bringing elite academic research and frontline manufacturing together under one roof, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is now a Member of the Centre of Excellence in Advanced Automotive Research (CAAR), Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.

This relationship targets critical, high-tech components of tomorrow's smart vehicles, shifting focus away from traditional mechanics toward deeply integrated software systems.
