Udit Pahwa- Head of Information Technology, Huhtamaki India Ltd; engages in an interesting conversation with Pro MFG Media where he talks about the need of cyber-security solutions; and also, how digitalization can accelerate sustainability. He also throws light on the book: "Automation for the Future” where Udit is the co-author.

How is Huhtamaki leveraging digitalization to unlock sustainability?

Sustainability and Circular Economy are a couple of core objectives for Huhtamaki’s 2030 vision; that nurtures through R&D using technology. Innovation in sustainability becomes a key unique USP to accelerate this process. The idea is to offer sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions to our customers, and reduce the carbon footprint. With continuous efforts of replacing the existing line of offerings with reused, recycled things, gives an edge to promote circular economy. A lot of R&D projects are in execution imbibing innovation to bring out sustainable offerings.

Huhtamaki has been adopting tools for innovation to digitize the process. From ideation to execution, and to the final product; we are using digital tools. These tools are available in the market but we customize it according to our use. Furthermore, it leads to more and more visibility to ‘Innovation Data’ initiatives to unlock sustainability.

You have Co-authored the Book "Automation for the Future" along with 7 CXO's, what are some notable new Automation Trends which are critical for Building a Future ready enterprise?

The book Automation for the Future focuses on specific aspects of Automation for the enterprise services. This ranges from basic services automation (like an L1 helpdesk) to advanced operations in the cyber security domain. The book outlines the focus areas that can be looked at for ringing in automation and improving enterprise agility.

My chapter on Automation for the Security Services or Cyber Security, and other chapters throw light on automation in the key areas of services, customers etc. Elaborating on the subject, given the current pandemic situation which has increased the number of cyber-attacks with each passing day, the workload on the- Cyber security Warriors is unprecedented, and this is where the need for automation of cyber-security services is felt more today than ever before.

The chapter also outlines on how one can identify the key areas of cyber security; consider ways to automate the cyber security services, and chart out the levels of extent. It also gives insights on key future trends to follow. Traditionally, the processes involved continuous close monitoring; spotting what’s suspicious and consecutively isolating it, investigating it, fixing it. But today, the attackers seem to have an upper hand and I believe they are a step ahead of the offerings of security that we have. So with the increased sophistication of cyber-attacks that are taking place today, the future now really depends on the industries’ urgency in terms to remediate and act on it.

The three things to consider are: How much time do you take to detect that there is an issue? How much time do you take to isolate? How much time do you take to remediate? These are critical which leads to key determinants of how effectively your security works in future. So, these are certain areas of automation that we can focus on.

With The Changing Threat Landscape can you share New Security Strategies for Future proofing enterprise cyber security?

The pandemic has forced enterprises to enable Work from Anywhere facility for its workforce. We don't currently have 100% foolproof solutions from a single vendor. One need is to work with multiple vendors to put things in place because it requires: ‘best of breed solutions’ stitched together. Recognizing the reality that no single vendor will be able to satisfy your cyber security needs, you will have to come up with multiple solutions.

I have elaborated in my chapter the technology of Security orchestration, automation and response (SOAR), that helps coordinate, execute and automate tasks between various people and tools, allowing people to have a single Control Panel in order to respond quickly to cyber security attacks.

The pandemic has also put additional pressure on ensuring enterprise security is not compromised and to ensure security in such a scenario, enterprises must look at XDR and SOAR solutions. The future strategies for Security would also need to embrace AI and ML technologies.
