January 2025 : Mahindra recently unveiled its new dedicated state-of-the-art manufacturing and battery assembly facility at its Chakan plant.

The new EV plant is located within Mahindra’s 2.83 km² Chakan manufacturing hub. This water-positive facility operates entirely on renewable energy. It highlights Mahindra’s focus on innovation and sustainable manufacturing. As part of its FY22–FY27 investment cycle, Mahindra has allocated INR ₹4,500 crores out of INR ₹16,000 crores for powertrain development, two product top hats, software, technology, and manufacturing capacity.

Key Features of the EV Facility

• A manufacturing setup spread across 88,000 m² for the EV domain.
• Utilises a fully automated AI-driven Body Shop and one of India’s most sophisticated robotic Paint Shops to optimize quality and efficiency.
• Deploys over 500 robots and fully automated transfer systems in Body Shop, all monitored via an IoT-based “Nerve Center” for real-time process insights and end to end traceability.
• Powered by Industry 4.0, featuring Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) for seamless material movement.

Battery Assembly at Mahindra's EV Facility

• It is among the world's most compact battery manufacturing lines, using patented processes and lean assembly techniques.
• Features a patented pallet design for insulation, geometric precision, and hidden cell terminal welding for robust connectivity.
• Performs multi-layered testing that simulates real-world conditions, with IP67 ingress protection, temperature monitoring, and automated anomaly isolation.
• Implements a no-fault-forward strategy and proprietary switching technology to ensure quality and safety.
