October 2025 : The NITI Aayog’s Frontier Tech Hub today unveiled a decisive 10-year strategy, "Reimagining Manufacturing: India’s Roadmap to Global Leadership in Advanced Manufacturing," setting the stage for India to become a global manufacturing powerhouse. Launched in Pune by dignitaries including Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, and CEO, NITI Aayog, Shri B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, the roadmap is a blueprint for integrating frontier technologies into the nation’s industrial core.
The ambitious vision targets manufacturing contributing over 25% to India’s GDP, generating more than 100 million jobs, and securing a spot among the top three global advanced manufacturing hubs by 2035. To achieve this, the document identifies Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Advanced Materials, Digital Twins, and Robotics as high-impact enablers across 13 priority sectors. The Aayog cautions that a failure to adopt these technologies could result in a potential loss of US$ 1 trillion in additional manufacturing GDP by 2047.
Expressing commitment to the mission, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, stated: “Maharashtra expresses its gratitude to NITI Aayog for preparing this visionary roadmap for Bharat’s manufacturing growth powered by frontier technologies, and for choosing Pune to lead this journey. If India has to achieve exponential growth, it cannot come from business-as-usual. Frontier Tech is the marriage of science and technology, and when this union enters manufacturing, it drives automation, efficiency, and global competitiveness. Maharashtra will be the first State to fully align with the National Mission on Manufacturing and become the global hub for advanced manufacturing.”
Shri B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, CEO, NITI Aayog, emphasized the urgency: “India’s economic ascent inextricably hinges the strength of our manufacturing sector, but incremental change will not suffice. This roadmap sets a decisive, time-bound course to become an Advanced Manufacturing Powerhouse by 2035; integrating frontier technologies to build precision, resilience, and sustainability into our manufacturing DNA, creating globally competitive 'Made in India' identity.”
This sentiment was echoed by Ms. Debjani Ghosh, Distinguished Fellow, NITI Aayog: “Frontier technologies must modernize the very backbone of our economy—manufacturing. The window to act is narrow, and transformation demands reimagining the entire ecosystem. By embedding technology into our industrial DNA, we can lift manufacturing’s GDP share to 25% by 2035, generate millions of high-quality jobs, and ensure our factories become symbols of innovation and national strength.”
Developed in collaboration with CII and Deloitte, the roadmap recommends strengthening R&D ecosystems, industrial infrastructure, and workforce development to address current competitiveness barriers, marking a critical step toward the Viksit Bharat @ 2047 goal.
