Prof. Banerjee, who is the Forbes Marshall Chair Professor in the Department of Energy Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay, has been involved in setting up a Megawattscale Solar Thermal Power Testing, Simulation, Research Facility sponsored by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

January 2022: Professor Rangan Banerjee from IIT Bombay has been appointed as the next Director of IIT Delhi. Prof. V Ramgopal Rao, the incumbent Director of IIT Delhi, used social media to congratulate and welcome Prof. Rangan Banerjee. He said: “I am happy to inform you that Prof. Rangan Banerjee from the Department of Energy Sciences & Engineering, IIT Bombay has been appointed as the next Director of IIT Delhi. Hearty congratulations and best wishes to Prof. Banerjee.”

Prof. Banerjee, who is the Forbes Marshall Chair Professor in the Department of Energy Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay, has been involved in setting up a Megawattscale Solar Thermal Power Testing, Simulation, Research Facility sponsored by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. He is also the faculty advisor of Team Shunya - India’s first student team in the Solar Decathlon 2014 Europe finals that involves designing and constructing a fully functional Solar house. Prof Banerjee’s areas of interest include energy management, modelling of energy systems, energy planning and policy, hydrogen energy and fuel cells. He has co-authored a book on Planning for Demand Side Management in the Power sector, a book on Energy Cost in the Chemical Industry and a book on Engineering Education in India.
