March 2026 : While manufacturing was once defined by the cold output of steel and steam, today’s industrial landscape is being rewritten by human ingenuity. Pro MFG Media presents"Women Aces of Manufacturing," a year-long spotlight on the visionary leaders transforming India’s industrial core. These leaders are proving that the sector's true strength isn't just in its machinery, but in the strategic minds guiding its evolution.
Leading the charge is Ashwini Kulkarni, CHRO at Ador Powertron Limited. Beyond her impressive titles, Ashwini is a champion of the "human" in high-tech, blending empathy with operational grit. She doesn't just manage talent; she builds cultures where innovation thrives, proving that the future of manufacturing is as much about people as it is about power.

What inspired you to pursue a career in manufacturing ?
Honestly, it was the realness of manufacturing that drew me in. This is where ideas come alive - you can actually see the outcome of decisions on the ground. Over time, I also realized that manufacturing is as much about people as it is about machines, and that’s where I found my purpose.

What is one leadership lesson manufacturing taught you ?
If there’s one thing manufacturing teaches you, it’s this - you can’t lead from a distance. You have to be present, listen deeply, and understand what’s really happening on the shop floor. Leadership here is built on trust, not titles. While data drives the decision , it has to be balanced with Empathy.

What keeps you committed to the manufacturing sector despite challenges ?
Every challenge here feels meaningful. Whether it’s transforming a workforce or improving inclusion, you know your work has a direct and lasting impact. That sense of contribution keeps me going.

Which competencies are most critical for women to thrive in plant operations ?
More than just competencies, I believe self-belief is the starting point. When that is coupled with confidence and clarity of thought, women can navigate even the most demanding plant environments effectively. Beyond this, adaptability, a solution-oriented mindset, and continuous learning become powerful enablers in operations where challenges evolve every day. And perhaps most importantly, finding your voice and using it with conviction - because impact on the shop floor comes not only from knowledge, but also from the courage to speak up, influence, and lead.

A moment in your career that made you most proud ?
Honestly, it isn’t a single moment - it’s a pattern of moments that stay with you. The ones where you see people step into possibilities they once believed were out of reach.
One standout experience was the "Divya" initiative, empowering women with disabilities. Watching them transition from hesitation to financial independence - building homes and starting families - was deeply moving. It transformed their self-perception and mine. It reminded me that true leadership isn’t just about scaling organizations; it’s about expanding human possibilities and fostering the confidence to thrive.

What is one misconception about women in manufacturing you would like to break ?
That women need to “fit into” manufacturing. The truth is, manufacturing needs to evolve to include diverse talent, and women are already proving they belong here in every way.

What advice would you give young women entering manufacturing today ?
Don’t second-guess yourself. Walk in with curiosity, courage, and a willingness to learn. You don’t have to know everything on day one - what matters is showing up, speaking up, and staying consistent.

How do you see the impact of AI in the manufacturing industry ?
AI is going to change the way we work - making processes smarter and decisions faster. But for me, the real opportunity is how we prepare people to work alongside technology, not be replaced by it.

Any initiatives being run in your company for increasing women’s participation in manufacturing ?
Beyond mere numbers, our focus is on building an ecosystem where women don’t just enter manufacturing - they flourish. Success isn't a headcount; it’s a culture of structural change, from inclusive policies to leadership mentorship. I’m grateful to lead strategic interventions that move past short-term representation, ensuring a safe, supportive workplace where all genders are empowered to lead, stay, and thrive together with purpose.

In one sentence: what does being a ‘Woman Ace of Manufacturing’ mean to you ?
It means showing up with purpose, breaking barriers quietly but consistently, and making it easier for the next woman to step in.
