December 2023 : Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) India has marked a significant milestone in its commitment to sustainability ambitions with the biggest showcase of electric machines in India at Excon 2023, South Asia’s largest Construction Equipment event. The company showcased a comprehensive range of electric and other machines alongside innovative service solutions, demonstrating its unwavering commitment to empowering customers and providing them with the tools necessary to achieve their productivity and sustainability goals.

Volvo CE is leading the charge towards more sustainable operations in mining, material handling, steel, cement, and urban infrastructure sectors. With the first-of-its-kind commercial launch of EC500 Electric, India’s first grid-connected electric excavator in the 50-ton class, Volvo CE pioneers a transition to zero-emission mining and construction machinery. In addition to this, the transformative potential of the L120 Electric Wheel Loader which is a pilot launch offered a glimpse into the future of material handling at ports, mines, plants, and other construction sites, offering no tailpipe emissions, near-silent operations, and a more comfortable work environment for a variety of indoor and outdoor applications. EC80 Electric, an addition to its already existing compact EC55 electric, used for urban construction and forestry, is also showcased as a near-production prototype. This innovative machine delivers superior performance with 6-8 hours of autonomy thanks to its bigger battery.

India-developed and designed electric compactors, DD40 and PT220 were showcased as technology concepts. The DD40 Electric Compactor features advanced instrumentation, zero-emission operation, and reliable charging, offering users the potential to experience energy cost reductions of up to 50 percent, while the PT220 Electric is ideal for environmentally sensitive areas with strict emission regulations, ensuring cleaner and quieter construction operations. Both products establish Volvo CE's advanced engineering capabilities and dedication to sustainable local solutions for the Indian market in line with Atmanirbhar Bharat focus of the government.
