July 2026 : Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL), a Vedanta Group flagship, has recently appointed Amarendu Prakash as its Whole-Time Director and Chief Executive Officer. In his new role, Prakash will drive the company's strategic vision, operational efficiency, and long-term expansion roadmap as Hindustan Zinc accelerates its next phase of growth following strong Q1 FY27 financial performance.

Prakash’s appointment comes at a crucial juncture for Hindustan Zinc as the producer sharpens its commitment to sustainable mining, technological innovation, and capacity scaling. With over three decades of experience managing complex, large-scale industrial assets, his leadership is expected to strengthen HZL's position as a globally competitive metals producer.

Prakash steps into the leadership role at HZL following a storied 34-year tenure at Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), India's largest state-owned steel producer. Most recently serving as Chairman and Managing Director, he spearheaded a dramatic operational turnaround that doubled SAIL's turnover and steered massive digital transformation initiatives. Starting as a Management Trainee (Technical) in 1991, his journey at SAIL spanned key operational roles at the Bokaro Steel Plant, shop-floor production management, and high-level strategy as Chief Business Advisor to the Chairman.

A metallurgical engineer by background, Prakash earned his B.Tech in Metallurgy from BIT Sindri before honing his executive acumen with management studies at XLRI Jamshedpur .
