June 2023 : The Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC) had organized the Electric Vehicle Summit recently. The Summit was organized under Chairmanship of Prakash G Chairman - Manufacturing Expert Committee – BCIC and Chief Operating Officer - Ace Designers Limited; Co-Chair, V Karthikeyan - Co-Chair - Manufacturing Expert Committee – BCIC Chief Technology Officer - EDS Technologies and under the mentorship of Dr. S Devarajan Sr. Vice President – Bangalore Chamber of Industry & Commerce and Sr. Vice President – TVS Motor Company. Prakash G - Chairman of BCIC Manufacturing Expert Committee coined the theme of the EV Summit as Challenge, Opportunity and Growth. This is very much relevant today in the current state of Green Growth. He informed that more than 200 people attended the Summit from Industry, Academia, Startups and Government.

Distinguished industry experts shared their knowledge and insight on following focus areas:

EV – Hydrogen based Fuel cell, IC Engine and Lithium Battery

“About 1.01 million EV vehicles have been sold in the year 2022. This is a mammoth threefold increase between 2021 and 2022. And I was recently in Nagpur for the G-20 meeting. There is a sub group called C-20 and it deliberates upon 14 different working groups. One of them happened to be on renewable energy which connects with the BCIC EV Summit,” said Dr L. Ravindran President – Bangalore Chamber of Industry & Commerce Founder Managing Director & CEO, Wealthmax Group of Companies during the Welcome Address.

While setting the context of the EV Summit, Dr S. The Chief Guest of the EV Summit, Gyanendra Kumar- Additional Commissioner of Transport GOK highlighted that there is drastic increase in registration of EV in Karnataka and mostly in Bengaluru. Kamal Bali - President & MD, Volvo Group India, mentioned in his powerful speech that “Partnership is the new leadership. The transition phase from IC engine to Electric Vehicle is going to be very challenging and will be very costly. It’s not going to be easy. New business models will have to be embraced.” Ashim Sharma - Senior Partner & Group Head Business Performance Improvement Consulting (Auto, Engg. & Logistics) - Nomura Research Institute shared insight on Clear analysis of EV world map. He said that we need to work on both sustenance and sustainability. Dr. P.A. Lakshminarayanan, Former Technical Advisor- Simpson & Co. Ltd., mentioned that Green Hydrogen as fuel for ICE is the most economical option. Clear analysis and justification with facts and figures of green hydrogen as fuel for ICE was explained to all in easy-to-understand graphics.

T.R. Parasuraman, Executive Advisor - Toyota Group highlighted that manufacturing has grown leaps and bounds due to various technologies available such as IOT, AI, Robotics, etc. Rabindra Sah, Chief Engineer - Strategic Projects, Global Practice - Automotive & Industrial Heavy Machinery – Tata Technologies shared his insight on the adoption of Product lifecycle management (PLM) framework along with digital engineering technologies for faster time to market for EV and Top-10 Digital Engineering Technology Trends & Opportunities in Electric Vehicle which create an immersive experience for the users. Prashanth Doreswamy, President and CEO - Continental India, mentioned the challenges of climate change and the development of environmentally friendly materials such as green calliper for brakes. V Karthikeyan, Chief Technology Officer, EDS Technologies stressed upon the need of a Digital Vision and a robust design flow to achieve the mission of Electric Vehicle in our country. Sudeep Dalvi, Senior Vice President and Chief Communication Officer - Toyota Kirloskar Motor, shared about the Toyota policy of customer first, and providing solutions aligned with the needs of each country rather than sticking to one type of fuel.

Bala Phani Kumar, Director Skill Development-Brigade BCIC Skill Development Academy shared insights on the importance of skill development for gearing up to meet the need of industry skilled manpower in the era of IoT and EV manufacturing. Ravikiran Annaswamy, CEO and Co-Founder, Numocity Technologies said, “New Models of EV charging infrastructure are emerging. Energy as a service needs to evolve through IEEE standards association.” Sivakumar Balakrishnan, Vice President - Product Quality and Validation, Ather Energy shared his insights on EV - Development and validation Challenges. Gopi Sankar M, VP & Chief Engineer, Ashok Leyland, highlighted the evolution of architecture and modular designs to meet various products of EV. Girish Ramaswamy, Head of Engineering, Vitesco Technologies said “Leadership is key to paradigm shift in business and product strategy.
