July 2026 : India’s automotive sector is firing on all cylinders. With vehicle sales surging nearly 22% to a record 2.6 million units in the first half of 2026, global mobility tech giant FORVIA is doubling down on the subcontinent. The company recently announced its 10th Indian manufacturing facility - and its very first dedicated entirely to complete seat assembly.
Slated to begin production in 2027, this new plant marks a major milestone in FORVIA's localized manufacturing strategy. It won't just assemble seats; it will introduce FORVIA’s proprietary Cover Carving Technology to the Indian market. This innovative, polyurethane-based solution optimizes seat geometry, intelligently carving out more rear cabin space for passengers without compromising the vehicle's structural packaging.
"This new plant reinforces our positioning in India, a market expected to represent around €4 billion by 2030 for automotive seating. It reflects our commitment to expanding complete seat system capabilities in India, with locally developed and manufactured solutions, and bringing advanced seating technologies to high-growth markets," said Sébastien Limousin, Executive Vice President, FORVIA Seating Business Group.
But this expansion - a core element of FORVIA's global IGNITE strategy - is about much more than bending metal and pouring foam. India is rapidly evolving into the company's engineering brain trust.

Today, over 2,400 engineers across India are driving FORVIA's global R&D ecosystem. They are actively developing next-gen zonal controllers, radar-based rider assistance, and smartphone vehicle access. Furthermore, FORVIA HELLA India has officially been designated as a Global AI Center of Competence, pioneering smart solutions like AI-enabled child presence detection and predictive anomaly tracking.
As India cements its status as both a manufacturing powerhouse and a high-tech innovation hub, FORVIA's latest investment proves that the future of mobility is increasingly being designed, engineered, and built on Indian soil.
