JBM Electric Vehicles Appoints Umashanker Gupta as Executive VP & Head of R&D

April 2026 : To bolster its leadership in the green energy transition, JBM Group has recently announced the appointment of Umashanker Gupta as the Executive Vice President & Head of R&D for its Electric Vehicles Division. Gupta, an industry veteran with over two decades of engineering excellence, will spearhead the roadmap for advanced, efficient, and sustainable bus technologies.

The appointment comes at a pivotal time for JBM as it scales its electric mobility footprint both in India and internationally. Gupta’s role will focus on electric vehicle architecture, system integration, and the development of scalable bus platforms designed to redefine public transport. By blending technical prowess with visionary leadership, Gupta is set to drive JBM’s mission of engineering-led innovation and modular design, ensuring the brand remains at the forefront of the global EV revolution.

Gupta brings a formidable 23-year track record to JBM. Before joining the group, he served as General Manager & Head of R&D at Volvo Buses India. His professional foundation was largely built during a prolific 20-year tenure at VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd. His early career highlights include roles at L&T Technology Services and Escorts Kubota Limited.

His technical leadership is backed by a robust academic background, holding an M.Tech in Product Design from IIT Delhi and a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Kamla Nehru Institute of Technology, Sultanpur.
