“From the current capacity of half a million units, the plant will be further scaled to one million units, making it one of the largest car plants in the world. It is a testament to the success of India-Japan partnership and ‘Make in India’ initiative.” - Toshihiro Suzuki, Representative Director & President - Suzuki Motor Corporation

July 2026 : Signaling a massive leap for India’s automotive landscape and a stronger bilateral bond, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi jointly inaugurated Maruti Suzuki’s highly advanced manufacturing facility at IMT Kharkhoda, Haryana. Unveiled via video conferencing during the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum, this world-class megaproject marks a watershed moment in Maruti Suzuki's four-decade journey.

Spanning 800 acres, the mega-facility is set to reshape local communities and global supply chains. Driven by a projected investment of ₹35,000 crore, the facility will scale from its current capacity of 0.5 million units to a massive 1 million units annually, morphing into one of the largest automotive manufacturing plants globally. Beyond the metal and machinery, the project carries immense human value, creating over 21,000 jobs and driving extensive community development across 10 neighboring villages.

Built on the cutting-edge "Suzuki Smart Factory" concept, the plant steps boldly into Industry 5.0. It prioritizes the harmony between human ingenuity and tech, deploying Human-aware collaborative robots (COBOTS) to enhance safety and build an elite standard of precision.

Crucially, the Kharkhoda site functions with a deeply embedded green soul. It meets 100% of its electricity needs through renewable sources, powered by a 20 MWp solar footprint set to expand to 70 MWp by 2030, alongside an upcoming 10 TPD biogas plant. Operating as a Zero Liquid Discharge facility, it recycles 100% of its water, sourcing two-thirds of its intake from recycled resources and rainwater harvesting.

Speaking on the grand occasion, Mr. Toshihiro Suzuki, Representative Director & President, Suzuki Motor Corporation, noted: “It is a great honour for Suzuki group today as its most advanced car manufacturing facility at Kharkhoda, Haryana has been inaugurated by Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi and H.E. Sanae Takaichi. From the current capacity of half a million units, the plant will be further scaled to one million units, making it one of the largest car plants in the world. It is a testament to the success of India-Japan partnership and ‘Make in India’ initiative. With a favourable policy environment under Hon’ble PM Modi’s leadership, Suzuki is accelerating investments, employment, exports and technologies towards the Viksit Bharat journey.”

Reflecting on India’s soaring status as an export hub - including sending the flagship e VITARA to 100 nations - Mr. Suzuki added: “Over the years, India’s importance has grown significantly within the Suzuki Group. Suzuki’s first Battery Electric Vehicle, the e VITARA, is manufactured exclusively at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat plant, for exports to 100 countries globally. Thanks to exports of Made in India cars, Suzuki has become the largest car importer in Japan, one of the most demanding automobile markets. This shift is a strong reflection of how ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ is unfolding in practice, demonstrating growing global trust in India’s quality, capability, and advancement in manufacturing.”
