“This collaboration supports Tata Electronics’ objective to become a global hub for high-technology manufacturing as a trusted partner to our leading semiconductor and automotive customers worldwide.” - Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO & MD - Tata Electronics

March 2026 : In a move that cements India’s rising status as a global semiconductor powerhouse, Qualcomm Technologies and Tata Electronics have recently announced a strategic partnership to manufacture advanced automotive modules right on Indian soil.

The collaboration will see Qualcomm leverage Tata Electronics’ upcoming US$3 billion Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Jagiroad, Assam. This greenfield site - India’s first indigenous high-volume OSAT facility - will produce the essential hardware powering the next generation of "software-defined" vehicles.

The partnership focuses on Qualcomm® Automotive Modules, which integrate the sophisticated Snapdragon® Digital Chassis™ system-on-chips into production-ready units. These modules are the "brains" behind modern digital cockpits, infotainment systems, and intelligent vehicle connectivity.

By shifting production to India, Qualcomm aims to diversify its global supply chain while supporting the Indian government’s “Make in India” initiative. “Our work with Tata Electronics marks an important milestone in our automotive growth strategy,” said Nakul Duggal, EVP and Group GM, Automotive, Industrial and Embedded IoT, and Robotics, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “As the industry accelerates its shift toward integrated, module-based architectures, expanding manufacturing capacity in key regions becomes essential.”

The choice of Assam for this high-tech venture marks a significant shift in India’s industrial geography. Tata Electronics will utilize Integrated Systems Packaging (ISP) and Flip Chip technologies to meet the rigorous demands of global automakers.

Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO & MD of Tata Electronics, highlighted the global ambition of the project: “This collaboration supports Tata Electronics’ objective to become a global hub for high-technology manufacturing as a trusted partner to our leading semiconductor and automotive customers worldwide.”

For Indian automakers, the deal promises shorter lead times and a more resilient local supply chain. As Savi Soin, President of Qualcomm India, noted, “Manufacturing in India through Tata Electronics enhances our ability to support both Indian and global OEMs with greater flexibility and supply chain resilience.”
