MTC’s new scrappage facility Centre at Sanand in Gujarat state is dismantling of passenger and commercial cars that have reached the end of their useful lives. The facility is on five acres of land and can handle more than 56,000 vehicles each year, claims MTC.

While seeing the MTC facility, Nagendra Nath Sinha appreciated the efforts of the Group to join India’s circularity ambitions through very well-designed plants and meticulous SOP. He was confident that in years to come, people would come to appreciate the benefit of scrapping through Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSFs) not only in financial terms but with environmental factors put together. He desired that the RVSFs must weave the unorganized players as part of value chains at respectful terms. He noted that new age vehicle scrapping would partially address the issue of increasing control by nations on their scrap exports.

In order to minimize the environment pollution and to enhance the circular economy model, Sanjay Mehta, Director, MTC Group highlighted that India’s older vehicles pollute 10 to 12 times more than fit vehicles, and that India holds a monumental load of over two crore old vehicles nearing the end of their lives of 15 years. He further added that India has 51 lakh light motor vehicles that are older than 20 years and another 34 lakh are older than 15 years. There are around 17 lakh Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) older than 15 years without a valid fitness certificate. Overall, the vehicle scrappage ecosystem is expected to attract additional investments of around Rs 10,000 crore and 35,000 job opportunities, the government estimates suggest.

As we understand that Circular Economy concepts are gaining the importance to address the environmental and economic challenges arising on account of finite natures of many resources and its negative impacts of waste and pollution.

With the growing concerns of climate change, environmental and ecological damage have enhanced the importance of sustainability within the automotive industry. Thus, PM Modi government announcement of vehicle scrappage policy is pushing towards introducing circularity will certainly help to reduce carbon emission and air pollution, while promising job and economic development as highlighted by Yash Mehta, Director, MTC Group.

MTC group is the largest recycling company of India. Recently, they have commenced a Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility at GIDC Sanand. It is a state of art ultra-modern Vehicle recycling unit which meets all Government stipulated norms and standards. They have a combined dismantling capacity of 56,000 vehicles per year.

With new additions in vehicle recycling, the group has become a one stop solution for all recycling needs in Gujarat. MTC envisages to become instrumental in building a circular economy which is required for a fast-developing nation like India.

Sustainability goals of the mobility industry necessitate circularity from cradle to grave in the entire life cycle of vehicles. Role of recyclers and expertise provided by stalwarts of recycling industry led by Sanjay Mehta, President, MRAI and Director, MTC group provides the confidence and manifest resolve of Indian government, regulators, producers, users and recyclers towards achieving panchamrut goals of India in its Amrit Kal as highlighted by Prashant K Banerjee, Executive Director, SIAM during his visit at MTC Sanand plant. SIAM is associated with Material Recycling Association of India (MRAI) as a part of its advocacy and Initiative of circularity.

“MTC group’s contribution in building a circular economy is extremely valuable. With their state-of-art plant set up, strict adherence to compliances and their customer centric approach will always stand tall amongst all market leaders in Recycling Industries,” said Jagdish Prasad, Vice President, MTC Group.

Before adding RVSF in their portfolio, MTC Group was already a pioneer in scrap recycling in this region and had been serving prominent companies in Gujarat like Suzuki Motor Gujarat, Honda Motors, Tata Motors, ArcelorMittal Group, Jindal Saw Limited, JBM Group, Posco, Bao Steel, Caparo, Krishna Maruti to name a few for the last 15 years.
