September 2025 : A major step has been taken to boost India's space ecosystem with the signing of a Technology Transfer Agreement (TTA) for the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV). The agreement was finalized on September 10, 2025, at ISRO Headquarters in Bangalore, with key players from the Indian space sector.
The TTA was signed between NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), a public sector undertaking of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The ceremony was also attended by officials from ISRO and the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe).
The SSLV is a three-stage, all-solid vehicle designed to launch satellites weighing up to 500 kg into Low Earth Orbit (LEO). Developed by ISRO, the vehicle is known for its quick turnaround time and on-demand launch capability, making it ideal for the global small satellite market. The SSLV can be launched from Sriharikota for inclined orbits and from the upcoming launch site in Kulasekarapattinam for polar missions.
This agreement is a direct result of the space-sector reforms announced by the Government of India. The commercialization of the SSLV is expected to significantly enhance India's presence in the global small satellite launch services market.
The signing was attended by several distinguished officials, including Shri S. Jayakrishnan, CEO of HAL (Bangalore Complex), Shri A. Rajarajan, Director of VSSC/ISRO, Shri M. Mohan, CMD of NSIL, and Shri Rajeev Jyoti, Director (Technical) of IN-SPACe. The event was also graced by Dr. S. Somnath, Secretary of DOS / Chairman of ISRO, Dr. Pawan Kumar Goenka, Chairman of IN-SPACe, and Dr. D. K. Sunil, CMD of HAL.
